Closed means closed: Non-government employers should follow state sector

27 February, 2022

The Queensland Government has made the decision to close all state schools across Metropolitan Brisbane and the South East as well as some schools in the North Coast and Darling Downs South West regions due to the flood situation.

The schools are those that fall into the following LGAs: Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, Somerset, Logan, Redlands, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley, Gympie, Noosa, Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.

We also understand a limited number of schools in the Fraser Coast region will be closed.

All non-government school and early childhood education centre employers in those locations should be following this decision and keeping their schools and centres closed due to the current weather emergency in the region.

Closed means closed
The position of IEU members is that closed means closed.

This means there should be no requirement for remote learning and no one will be at school tomorrow in these areas.

There should be no requirement for teachers or any other school staff to travel to their school.

The message is clear – do not travel unless you have to.

IEU support is always here

Our union will continue to provide further updates to IEU members as they come to hand.

We have also decided to close our offices in Brisbane, Toowoomba, Wide Bay and the Sunshine Coast tomorrow.

This is not because the buildings/offices are inundated but to keep people safe and off the roads.

Our officers and staff will continue to work from home to assist members – please call FREECALL 1800 177 938 or email enquiries@ieuqnt.org.au

Updates will also be posted to our Facebook and Twitter pages as well as via our MyIEU member portal at www.myieu.org.au

Stay safe – and please remember, if it’s flooded, forget it.
